ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"My subject matter comes from the world around me: landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, interiors, and people engaged in everyday activities. With each painting my intent is to light up the inner life of what I see, much as Cezanne, Matisse, or Hopper did, each in his own individual way. I do not know if I can do this, but it is forever fascinating to try. I work in watercolor because of the transparent light and color it affords. My work has been described as 'carefully structured, delicate and lively', but this is not consciously worked for, it is just what happens when I paint."
